Around twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland found themselves without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, producing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Locals observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that different parts across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Victorian Weather Woes

At the same time, approximately one thousand energy customers in Victoria also encountered energy failures after Melbourne saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received nearly 600 emergency reports across the area, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28k power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
